Thousands of students started the new academic term on Monday and to help those returning – and just beginning! – Refreshers Week has provided a motivating start.
There have been networking opportunities, chances to join sports clubs and societies, and organised social events such as laser tag and clay-making, taking place on the EUL campuses, with tonight’s Refreshers finale to be the Zoo Party!
Shamar Thomas-Campbell, a second year student, studying Education Studies, said: “The Refreshers Week has been a really good experience and it has really helped me settle back into my studies.
“I also feel that it brings a fun rhythm back on to the uni campus here in Stratford, where often there haven't been as many events held here compared to Docklands.”
Alae Abrahim, who is a first year student, studying Education Studies, who was at the university volunteering stall said: “UEL are going to put me in touch with the right organisations so that I can volunteer in the areas which are of interest to me.
“I want to work with children or work in a nursery, I feel really happy about this, especially as it’s relevant to my degree.”
There were 20 sports clubs and societies at the Refreshers Fair including UEL’s popular Hockey Club as well as several external businesses, charities, and food vendors like campus-based Food Junkie and Walthamstow Dogs.
Carley Owen, UEL’s Community and Student Events Manager, said: “This is the first time UELSU has delivered a Refreshers Fair at Stratford.
“It was brought to Stratford based on staff and student feedback given over the year and after a hugely successful Freshers Fair on Docklands campus, back in September.”
