Youth Engagement & Social Activism in a Time of Democratic Crisis

Everyone knows that young people seem to have lost faith in politics. Many just see politics as dull and boring however it is certain individuals who can be helod responsible for doing just that, and for damaging the image of something as honourable as politics should be.

The idea of an individual becoming a politician should originate from a passion in leadership; a passion in helping society and in helping the general public achieve their academic and professional ambitions, whilst making sure that social mobility is present and effectively flowing within the country they represent. However, the aim of many political representatives begin to change throughout their journey. They become more personal and party affiliated rather than putting the public first. We must not let politicians damage our motive and thrive for politics and leadership. We can be the change and we can be the young generation who rises up with genuine passion to make a difference in our current society.

As you read this, more than '72 million children of primary education age are not in school' and '759 million adults are illiterate and do not have the awareness necessary to improve their living conditions and those of their children'. My question is, where are the leaders that will rise up to make a change? No matter how small it is, a change is a change and bringing a chance to the life one human being is enough of a reason to try. Why not start today trying to bring a chance? Start with a word of encouragement. Since the age of 18, I have dedicated myself to promoting education by writing and giving speeches on the importance of education and the powerful tool that it is.

We don't have to be inside parliament or a political institution to be involved or to bring about change. Everybody can use their passion to send out a message and create an impact amongst others.

Social media is an excellent platform to create social awareness so please make yourself heard. I strongly believe if you're reading this, you can be a protagonist in your field, you can raise awareness of social issues but above all, you can be part of the leadership generation that raises up in citizen activism.
